A stone (dimension) deposit/quarry located in the NW¼ sec. 27, T3N, R13E, MDM, 1.5 km (0.9 mile) NNE of Angels Camp proper and ESE of Bald Hill. Operated intermittently since the 1850's. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 1,000 meters.
Rhyolite tuff is a fine-grained, tough, massive, grayish-white material that caps a small hill. It is 130 feet thick, circular in shape, and about 500 feet in diameter. There is no overburden. The tuff rests on Late Tertiary gravels and green schist.. Only the uppermost 20 feet is quarried. Local rocks include Tertiary pyroclastic and volcanic mudflow deposits, unit 9 (Cascade Range).
The rock was blasted, trammed by hand to a small crushing and sizing plant, crushed, sized, and stored. Two sizes of crushed tuff were produced.
