A Mn occurrence located in sec. 30, T7N, R25E, MDM, 5.7 km (3.5 miles) ENE of Wheeler Peak (coordinates of record) (on Sweetwater Creek near the Nevada state line. Lies in the floor of a valley. The mineral map shows this prospect on what is now Ferris Creek [see topo and mineral maps]), on National Forest land. Discovered in 1942. Owned by Jack Penrose (1974). MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 5,000 meters.
Mineralization is hosted in Pliocene rhyolite. The deposit is composed of limonite and wad. Local rocks include Tertiary volcanic flow rocks, unit 17 (Cascade Range) and/or Quaternary alluvium and marine deposits.
Analytical data results: Ore grade is 5.04% Mn.
