Formula:
K2(C2O4) · H2O
Name:
Named in honour of Uralian mineralogist from Sverdlovsk (Ekaterinburg now) Grigory Nikolaevich Vertushkov (1909-1994).
Natural potassium oxalate hydrate, described by B.V. Chesnokov from the Ilmen Natural Reserve. It was rejected due to "absence of direct connection with the lithosphere". Vertushkovite was described as inclusions of ~0.5 mm crystals within "чага" - a special tumour on birch trees. The holotype specimen of the "чага" was collected at a height of 1.5 m above ground.
Rejected by the IMA, but apparently published nonetheless.
