A mesocratic nepheline-syenite containing abundant aegirine-augite and some orthoclase and nepheline in equal amounts. Many other mafic minerals, such as amphibole, garnet, biotite, may be present.
Now defined modally as a mesocratic variety of foid syenite.

Classification of Malignite
Foid-syenite is in section 11 of the QAPF diagram.
Mineralogy of Malignite
Essential minerals - these are minerals that are required within the classification of this rock:
Feldspar > Alkali Feldspar > Orthoclase | K(AlSi3O8) |
Feldspathoid > Nepheline | Na3K(Al4Si4O16) |
Pyroxene > Clinopyroxene > Aegirine-augite | (NaaCabFe2+cMgd)(Fe3+eAlfFe2+gMgh)Si2O6 |
Non-essential minerals - these minerals are common, sometimes major components, but are not always present:
Amphibole | (Na, K, â—»)(Ca,Na)2(Mg,Fe,Al)5((Si,Al)8O22)(OH,F,Cl,O)2 |
Garnet Group | X3Z2(SiO4)3 |
Mica > Biotite | K(Fe2+/Mg)2(Al/Fe3+/Mg/Ti)([Si/Al/Fe]2Si2O10)(OH/F)2 |
