About Pterolite
Name:
The name was introduced by Breithaupt (1865) for a dense, fibrous or featherlike mineral from the Langesundsfjorden area, Norway ("Brevig"). Breithaupt thought it to be a new mica mineral. Later it was recognized as a mixture (Brøgger 1890). The name, pterolite, is derived from the greek for feather.
This pseudomorph occurs as rims around or completely replacing black amphibole crystals occuring in the syenite pegmatites in the Langesundsfjorden and Tvedalen districts, Norway.
