Ore deposit consists of quartz β pyrite veins, fracture fillings, in north-northwest trending faults. Ore shoots within the vein contain gold tellurides and silver sulphosalts. Wallrock alteration associated with mineralization is relatively minor. The geological literature of the Platoro region mostly concerns the volcanism and caldera development. Adjunct to this, brief reviews of the ore deposits are given by Lipman and Steven (1970) and Lipman (1975).
