The Kurundi Goldfield is a widely scattered collection of small mines and prospects between the Mosquito Creek Wolfram Field, and Hatches Creek Wolfram Field, around 50 kilometres east of Wauchope. Most sit in rugged country, being the jumbled hills of the Murchison/Davenport Ranges, and access is often difficult even for a 4 wheel drive.

Grand names for the mines do not match their history, seeing some intermittent prospector, and syndicate mining, for small tonnages and scant gold. Exploration by geologists for over one hundred years, have all come to the same conclusion, of patchy gold over a limited extent. All the prospects, except Cairns, Weka, and the Great Davenport were discovered by the Australian Exploration Syndicate of some Ballarat prospectors led by Allan A. Davidson, between 1898 to 1906. South Australian government geologist H.Y.L. Brown inspected the prospects shortly after but dismissed them as worthless.

All the prospects show faulting as the structural control for the auriferous veins, have patchy and erratic gold distribution, overall low grade deposits, with localised high gold grades due to secondary enrichment, with the veins narrow, and a small ore resource.
