Named for the chemical composition, in accordance with whiteite-group nomenclature. The suffix indicates sequentially the dominant cation in the X, M1, and M2 structural positions. The root name is for John Sampson White, Jr., associate curator of minerals, Smithsonian institution; founder, editor and publisher (1970-1982) of the Mineralogical Record.
