Ref.: The Iron Mines of New Jersey (1910), Bayley: 11, 267-268; NJ State Geol. Annual Rpts.: (1873): 67; (1879): 79; (1880): 115; (1883): 136. An iron mine in magnetite ore located about 2¾ miles South of Sparta in Sparta Twp. Started 1870 (?) & closed 1871, then 1874-1878 & late 1879. Total output was 4,000 tons of ore. Ore vein was 12 feet (4 meters) wide at surface and 5 feet wide at the bottom of the shaft. Workings featured 3 shafts (30 to 60 feet deep).
