Williams (1973): "A trial for stibnite is recorded in the Second Statistical Account for Dumfriesshire. It was "made in the bottom of a very deep glen on the estate of Crawthwaite, the property of George Graham Esq., by a level which remains open, or was so lately. (This account was written by the parish Minister in 1834). Antimony was actually found. It is probable the ore was not found in sufficient quantity to warrant the expense of further search. This locality has not been checked in modern times."

"There is no Crawthwaite on the modern 1 in. Ordnance maps but perhaps the glen at Nat. Grid. Ref. NY252830 near Crawthat Cottage is the location in question."
