A former underground Cu-Ag-Au mine located in the W½ sec. 25, T8S, R5E (Silver Reef Mountains 7.5 minute topo map), about 1½ miles SSW of White Horse Pass, about 3 miles SSW of Chuichu, on private land surrounded by Indian Reservation (claims are located along the SE slope of Silver Reef Mountains for the upper two thirds of sec. 25 and extend slightly into sec. 24). Discovered in 1895 by the Loss brothers (?). Closed in 1965. Owned by J. A. Barnhard (1960); operated by the Powdered Metals Corp. (1968). Claims include the Chicago; St Louis; Summit; Cowboy; Crown; Esperanza; and Millsite, all patented claims (1968). Additional names which apply to this locality: Esperanza MS 1698 patented claim, Standard Copper Co. of Arizona group; St Louis claim; Chicago claim; Cow Boy MS 1698 Patented claim; Black Crator; Summit MS 1698 claim; Crown MS 1698 claim.
Mineralization involves fractures in andesite. The ore body is 9.14 meters thick and 1219.2 meters long. Ore concentration was hydrothermal alteration.
Area structures include andesite bedding with a NNE strike and almost vertical dip to the east. Tertiary volcanic field, with blocks faulted against Precabrian Ruin (Oracle) Granite; E-W and NW-SE normal falts i a 2 mile radius both north and west of the mine.
Workings were limited to the Esperanza and Cowboy claims; on the Esperanza claim there is a perpendicular (???) shaft of 165 feet and a 250 foot shaft with vertical and inclined sections. The longer (?) shaft has drifts at the 100 foot level, 200 foot level and 250 foot level. There are two openings on the Cowboy claim: a short tunnel leading to a shallow shaft.
