The Shojingawa mine mined sulfur and limonite mainly from two deposits of "Shojingawa deposit" and "the rain trout River deposit".
The Shojingawa deposit intends for a limonite deposit to (1937) in 1937, and it was developed, but a deposit of sulfur is discovered in the case of the lower part inquiry of the limonite floor in the next year, and it will be developed as a deposit of sulfur.
It became "NipponRyutetu Co" to (1942) in 1942 and built the sulfur smelting ground and took out a sulfur product.
In addition, the discovery of the rain trout River deposit is older, and that fire spread to splinters of stone which there was near is said to (1895) with a motive of the discovery for 1895 years when the lumberjack of former Nanae village built a fire.
It was about 1897 that a deposit was discovered and took the name of the owner in 1900, "Yamamoto mine", and prospered. The owner changed in 1908 and the mine was renamed to "Shikabe mine".

"Shojingawa mine" is the sulfur mine which is next to "the Horobetsu mine" in Hokkaido and be full of the prosperity at one time and the elementary school was built, but I close it from the drying up of resources and irrational management in about 1960 and reach the mine zone at the present.
The former Shojingawa mine is located in the north side foot of a mountain of the Mt. southeastern side / side Tsu of Onuma (Nanae-cho), and it is the general term of two deposits of Shojingawa well and the rain trout River well.
However, it has been closed in about 1960.
