Deposits of amethyst and agate: druses or in basalt geodes; agates are also extracted to the South. Amethyst features "Brazil law twins" and contain Fe, traces of Al, Li, Ca, Mg, Cr, Mn, Ti and Cu. Usually pale lilac, bluish-purple and dark purple. Some fade from exposure to sunlight. They have pyramidal ends. The geodes are usually coated by green celadonite on the outside. The agates have variable microporosity and banding.
