Specimen Photo Search

Enter a mineral/rock name (eg Almandine), and part of a region name (eg Alaska) and this search will find all photos from localities within the region of that mineral. Select type of photo to search and either check all photos or select a subtype for the photos. Alternatively, enter a keyword or photograph type and optionally a locality or mineral name. If you are just looking for photos of a mineral or from a location, the photo gallery links on the mineral and locality pages are easier to use.

Huanggang Fe-Sn deposit, Hexigten Banner, Chifeng City, Inner Mongolia, China

Dimensions: 7.1 cm x 6.3 cm x 4.4 cm

7.1 x 6.3 x 4.4 cm. Lollingite, along with ilvaite, calcite, fluorite, scheelite and quartz, is a signature species from this now famous remote mine. This very bright and sculptural 360-degree specimen is composed solidly of intergrown, brilliant silver-metallic prisms. This is a very rich, highly representative iron arsenide, related to arsenopyrite. Ex Paul Otto Collection.

Huanggang Fe-Sn deposit, Hexigten Banner, Chifeng City, Inner Mongolia, China

Dimensions: 17.8 cm x 13 cm x 7.4 cm

17.8 x 13.0 x 7.4 cm. The lollingites (a species related to arsenopyrite) from this remote new mine are being hailed as best of species material and this is an impressive large combination example. This piece features spear-shaped, lustrous, foliated silvery crystal clusters to about 9.5 cm, very richly decorated with tiny, off-white calcite rhombs and a couple quartz crystals on the left side. A dramatic combination specimen from recent finds of mid-2012 (found in April). Unlike most such pieces found this has dramatic 3-dimensional aesthetics and clearly shows the bladed crystals standing up. The calcite has modest pink fluorescence. Weighs 6.2 pounds or 2.8 kilograms.

9.4 x 8.8 x 5.8 cm. The lollingites (a species related to arsenopyrite) from this remote new mine are being hailed as best of species material and this is an excellent combination example. This piece features broad blade-shaped, lustrous, foliated silvery crystal clusters to about 5.0 cm, nicely accented with a patch of off-white calcite rhombs and a couple quartz crystals. This showy combination specimen is from recent finds of mid-2012 (found in April). Unlike many such pieces found this has fine 3-dimensional aesthetics and clearly shows the bladed crystals standing up. Interestingly, no fluorescence on the calcite. Weighs 960 grams or 2.1 pounds.

Crystals of Löllingite with polycrystalline growths that are extraordinarily well defined for the species. They are partially coated by bluish Molybdenite, with a colorless and transparent octahedral crystal of Fluorite, three white dipyramidal crystals of Scheelite, one of them clearly dominant, a group of Magnetite crystals at the base, and very sharp small and bright crystals of Arsenopyrite. The Scheelite has been analyzed.
Huanggang Mine, Kèshíkèténg Qí, Chifeng, Inner Mongolia A.R., China.
Found in 2012
Specimen size: 8.8 × 7.1 × 8.7 cm = 3.5” × 2.8” × 3.4”
Main crystal size: 6.2 × 4.6 cm = 2.4” × 1.8”
