Following the reorganisation of 1996, the Unitary Authorities of Denbighshire,Flintshire and Wrexham were formed from part of the administrative county of Clwyd.
Clwyd was itself only formed during the 1974 administrative reorganisation and incorporated the traditional counties of Denbighshire and Flintshire plus part of Merionethshire, all date back to the middle ages.
It should be noted that the new boundaries of the Denbighshire and Flintshire Unitary Authorities are now considerably different from those of the historic counties of the same names (the Unitary Authority of Wrexham has been formed from part of what was the historic county of Denbighshire).
Specimens from locations within this section may be labeled as coming from Denbighshire or Clwyd depending upon the time they were collected.
Specimens from locations in the old traditional county of Denbighshire that now forms the Unitary Authority of Wrexham are listed seperately within that section.
