North of Dattaw-pyant, a relatively small (70 x 30 m) gem-bearing pegmatite deposit is situated where various gems are recovered in open-pit schemes.
In 2001 radioactive minerals were discovered in this area and by 2003 the Myanmar Ministry of Science & Technology occupied a considerable area at Dattaw-mid and was engaged in intense sample-mining and prospecting for radioactive minerals and ores, using deep-core-drilling equipment. At this time gem mining at Dattaw-mid has ceased. - Ted Themelis (2008) Gems and Mines of Mogok
