A former surface and underground asbestos mine located in secs. 25, 26, & 34-36, T8N, R14E, about 1½ miles E of Cow Flat Mountain and about 11 miles SE of Young, on National Forest land. Melrose Mines are made up of 46 claims, most notably, The White Beauty claims, P-38 claims, Maxwell claims, J.W. Workings Man O'War Mine, and the Hardluck claim. Produced in the 1920's to 1940's.

Mineralization is a vein deposit with ore in lenses hosted in the Mescal Limestone. The ore zone is 304.8 meters long, with a depth-to-bottom of 18.29 meters, and a thickness of 0.15 meters, dipping 10NE. An associated rock unit is diabase.

Within the vicinity the limestone bedding has been disturbed by thrust and bedding-plane faulting in some areas, with consequent fracturing and shearing.

Workings include several adits, stopes, benches, and open pits. Workings total 30.48 meters in length and 18.29 meters deep. Several tons of grade 1 and grade 2 ore have been produced from the early 1920's to the late 1940's. An exact figure is not available.

Assay data: Asbestos forms in ½ to 2 inches of harsh to semi-soft fiber. The strength of mineralization decreases at depth.
