Svinør is a port and a small island 250 m off the coast. Granite pegmatites are known from this island and nearby.

Nordenskiöld (1887) reported a find of thorite from the port of Svinør. One of these groups of thorite weighed 1650 gr. The find may be from Vollegruva at an island southeast of the port at Svinør, on Olavsøy.

Barth (1931) writes that the feldspar from the pegmatites at Svinør was of too poor quality to be able to use it. This is contradicted by Gulbrandsen and Klev (1997). Barth (1931) claims that the pegmatites were worked mainly for minerals, notably thorite.
Gulbrandsen and Klev write that the thorite was mined on an island SE of Svinør at Olavsøy.

The altitude map shows several candidates for being a quarry, but some of them could also be natural features.

Gulbrandsen and Klev (1997) claim that there have been several additional propects.
