Mesa VI Mine; Mesa No. 6 Mine

A former U-V occurrence/mine located in the NEΒΌ sec. 7, T36N, R29E, G&SRM, 2.0 miles E of White Ash Peak. The USGS MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 500 meters. The geographic coordinates presented are taken from USGS MRDS file #10137123.

Mineralization is tyuyamunite and carnotite in lenticular masses hosted in Late Jurassic mudstone and sandstone of the Salt Wash Member of the Morrison Formation. The ore body is 3.05 meters long. Ore bodies occur in units showing the most rapid variation in thickness in the Salt Wash member of the Morrison formation. Tyuyamunite, pintadoite and pascoite occur in limy, quartzose sandstone of the Salt Wash member. Mineralization is associated with clay galls and clay seams. The lower 6-100 feet of the pink Salt Wash Member is barren. Local rocks include rocks of the Glen Canyon Group.

Workings include underground openings comprised of an incline and an adit.

Production was 8,994 tons of ore @ 0.24% U3O8; 1.12% V2O5 (1961-1964).

Analytical data results: 0.31% U3O8.
