A former lode and placer Au mine located in sec. 28, T21N, R5E, MDM, 1.2 km (4,100 feet) NW of Berry Creek (town), along Berry Creek (stream). Operated by Carl Johnson, Oroville, California. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 1,000 meters.

Mineralization is hosted in granodiorite. The ore body strikes N25E, NW and dips SE, SW, at a thickness of 1.52 meters. Local rocks include Mesozoic granitic rocks, unit 3 (Sierra Nevada, Death Valley area, Northern Mojave Desert and Transverse.

Workings include surface and underground openings. An open cut, 65 feet long, and a series of short adits on the steep mountainside exist above (East of) the road. The lowest adit, at 175 feet long, is 70 feet below the open cut. An adit with a stope and drift to the vein is 20 feet below this level. A winze is said to have been in pay ore. An adit from the road level is estimated at 200 feet long, with pay ore in a cross vein, 15 to 20 feet back from a 2 foot vein, which was struck 70 feet from the portal.

Production information: Several hundred tons yielded $10/ton of Au (period values), under wasteful milling conditions, with high loss in tailings. Many thousands of dollars from bunches of rich pocket ore. Total output estimated from $30,000 to $80,000 (period values). No specific production dates available.

The surface of the hillside pans small quantities of free gold in many places.
