A former lode Au occurrence/mine located in the center of sec. 16,T9N, R10E, MDM, 2.9 km (1.8 miles) ESE of Frenchtown, on the divide between Big Canyon Creek and Slate Creek (3 miles SW of El Dorado), on private land. The claim is 21 acres. Operated by E. J. Murray. Operated prior to 1894. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 500 meters.
Mineralization is hosted in hornblendite and porphyry. The ore body strikes N and dips 70E at a thickness of 1.52 meters. The vein averages 5 feet in thickness. The ore is in small, rich shoots. Local rocks include Jurassic marine rocks, unit 1 (Western Sierra Nevada and Western Klamath Mountains).
Workings include surface and underground openings comprised of a 200 foot crosscut adit, 200 feet of drifts and open cuts. A 5-stamp mill was erected.
