A former W occurrence/mine located in sec. 28, T7S, R15E, SBM, about 7.4 km W of Black Butte (summit), N of Iris Pass, in the western Chuckwalla Mountains (12 miles W of Desert Center). MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 1,000 meters.
Mineralization is a vein deposit hosted in mica schist. The ore body strikes NE and dips 45NW. Mica schist is intruded by dioritic dikes and felsic dikes. The diorite dikes are partially schistosed. Light colored dikes are also present and are as wide as long, usually not in excess of 150 feet. Contacts of the dikes have zones of quartz, epidote, and garnet where the scheelite occurs. Local rocks include schist of various types and ages, unit 2 (Southern and West-central California).
Workings include surface openings comprised of a small open cut.
Production data are found in: Tucker, W. Burling & Reid J. Sampson (1945).
Since 1945, shipments have been made to the Metals Reserve Company stockpile, which have averaged better than 2% WO3. There are no available production figures.
