Pandurra Copper Mine, developed on copper mineralisation discovered in 1872, mining commencing in 1874, and continuing intermittently to the late 1930's, and again in the late 1960's. No production records were apparent. Host rock was sandstone and shale of Proterozoic age, the lode material being a 1-2 m wide fault infill, dipping 70-80 W. The lode consisted of hematite, malachite, azurite, and manganese oxide. The mine workings extended for 1/4 mile along the fault. Host Tregolana Shale on the downthrown side was deeply weathered, sericitic, kaolinitic, loosely manganiferous, and tightly folded adjacent to the fault. Associated Whyalla Sandstone contained minor hematite and sericite, and had a cataclastic texture adjacent to the fault. The local structural setting was interpreted as that of a tear fault of limited strike extent, induced by basement wrench faulting. Surface mapping south of the prospect revealed the presence of limonite-cemented fault breccia, possibly a continuation of the fault on which the copper mineralisation was located. Rock chip samples of the breccia returned best values of 1750 ppm Cu, 1520 ppm Pb, 1550 ppm Zn & 260 ppm Co. A resource estimate was of 121,900 tonne @ 0.3-0.4% Cu. Drillholes RP7 and 8 intersected the Tregolana Shale-Whyalla Sandstone boundary at 7.6m and 15.2m respectively. Drill holes 6332 J1-11 & 6332 I1, returned anomalous Cu (>2000 ppm) in Woocalla Dolomite black shale, Zn up to 1100 ppm, and Pb to 2800 ppm.
