The Channar Project is actually several mineral deposits also known as the Channar Mining Area. Opened in 1990.

The Brockman Iron Formation hosts the ore bodies and overlies the McRae Shale Formation. Within the Brockman Iron Formation is the Dales Gorge Member composed of an alternating assemblage of seventeen banded iron formations, and sixteen shale micro bands. The Whaleback Shale Member is barren of iron and split into three zones: basal, central and upper shale. The Joffre Member is a 240 metres thick banded iron formation with minor thin shale interbeds, without any regular macro banding.

The deposit outcrops at the surface over a 12 kilometre strike length, and 1 to 2 kilometres wide. The ore bodies are generally flat with limited faulting and mineralisation extends to 150 metres depth. They occupy the crests and southern slopes of the Paraburdoo Range.

The Channar deposits are Channar, Channar East, and 64 East, all low phosphorous Brockman microplaty hematite ore with lesser goethite. Also 84 East and 94 East deposits which are high phosphorous Brockman martite-goethite ores.

The enriched iron ore is martite with an overgrowth of microplaty hematite and bladed hematite hosted by the Dales Gorge Member and Joffre Member. The ore body is cut by two north-west trending dolomite dykes. The eastern edge of the ore body is defined by a north-east trending dolomite dyke, that crosscuts and postdates the high grade iron ore. One hydrothermal alteration transition zone has been identified, being a martite-dolomite-microplaty hematite-rhodochrositechlorite assemblage in the hanging wall.
