Uranium mineralisation discovered in 1957 in an old prospecting gallery, excavated in 1941 at Dos SorΓ , on the right side of Rio Giulis at an elevation of 1350 m, for copper ore. In 1958 also some trenches were excavated at Dos SorΓ , part of the Malga Rive prospecting concession, by Montecatini chemical and mining company.
Uranium mineralisation is hosted, as lenses, in grey sandstones of the Val Gardena Sandstone Formation (Arenarie della Val Gardena) of upper Permian age, which contain dispersed organic matter. Also small quantities of Fe and Cu minerals are associated with U ore.
