A dolomite-limestone quarry owned by the Basic Materials Corp. Workings are more than 30 meters (100 feet) deep. Located near Raymond and Waterloo.
The quarry closed in the late 1990s. The pit is now filled with water and the site is off limits to collecting.
Deposit: Not regarded as a Mississippi Valley-type (MVT) occurrence; Ni in pyrite ranges from 26-202 ppm, Co from 12-28 ppm.
Cadastral location: s W 1/4 sec. 36, t. 89 n., r. 12 w. ; info.src : cobb drilling in 1951 indicated favorable structures and mineralized rock in unmined areas.
Geology: Ore minerals occur in the Cedar Valley Formation, essentially confined to vugs or bedding-plane fractures. Mineralization followed vertical joints of E-trend; production primarily of galena.
