The Querandí Lighthouse, controlled by the Argentinean Navy is located 30 km S from the city of Villa Gesell, and currently operates as a Museum and can be visited by individuals. The lighthouse takes its name from the homonymous tip, which in turn recalls the querandíes natives who lived in the region of the Río de la Plata. In the vicinity of the same above the beach is an ecological reserve constituted by a tank or cemetery of remains of snails and marine animals in some fossilized cases and calcareous rocks containing a high proportion of fossil seashells. These Shelly Limestones can contain a great variety of brachiopod and bivalve shells. The rock matrix is usually cemented by calcite. Any brownish coloring the rock exhibits may be due to detrital minerals and iron oxides. These limestones are essentially of marine origin.
Pumice, which is presented as a porous rock (in some cases of black color), has also been found floating on the water.
