A former lode Au occurrence/mine located in sec. 28 (?), T41N, R9E, MDM, 2.5 km (8,100 feet) WSW of Schaffer Mountain (coordinates of record), E of highway 139, on National Forest land. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 1,000 meters. Clark refers to this mine as the "Modoc Mine."
Mineralization is a vein deposit (Mineral occurrence model information: Model code: 151; USGS model code: 25d; Deposit model name: Epithermal vein, Sado; Mark3 model number: 28), hosted in Pliocene andesite. Local rocks include Tertiary pyroclastic and volcanic mudflow deposits, unit 9 (Cascade Range).
Local structures include a fault zone. The country rock is brecciated.
Related tectonic structures include the Modoc Plateau.
Workings include underground workings. Developed by several shafts.
