A former lode Au occurrence/mine located in the SW¼ sec. 1 (lot 49), T15N, R8E, MDM, 0.2 km (0.1 mile) N of La Barr Meadows and about 2.5 miles SSE of Grass Valley, on private (patented) land. The property comprises 8.28 acres. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 500 meters. This mine was worked in conjunction with the Ben Franklin and Bullion Mines.
Mineralization is a vein deposit hosted in diorite. The ore body strikes N and dips 45E at a thickness of 0.91 meter. The vein is 8 to 36 inches (20 to 90 cm) thick. Local rocks include Mesozoic granitic rocks, unit 3 (Sierra Nevada, Death Valley area, Northern Mojave Desert and Transverse Ranges).
Workings include underground openings with a length of 487.68 meters and an overall depth of 152.4 meters and comprised of 2 shafts, a 586 foot drift on the 140 level, plus other drifts on the 220, 275 & 340 foot levels.
Production statistics: Year: 1877 (accurate): 98 grams Au/metric ton; 1878: 79 grams Au/metric ton.
