This vein lies about 1 mile SW of the Tom Reed vein, with which it is approximately parallel, and crops out strongly on both sides of Oatman Wash at Old Trails. It is a stringer lode with, as a rule, no well-defined walls and shows considerable variation from place to place. In some exposures it consists of a quartz-calcite vein as much as 12 feet wide accompanied by innumerable small stringers, particularly in the SW wall. In other places it is a brecciated mass of andesite, the fragments partly silicified and cemented by quartz and calcite. The country rock is the Oatman Andesite.
Two ore bodies have been stoped in the Gold Dust Mine. The larger, SE of the main or No. 1 shaft, was about 200 feet long and extended from surface to a depth of 160 feet. The smaller was stoped between surface and the first level near the No. 2 shaft, about 450 feet NW of the main shaft.
At the NW end of the 500 level, the vein splits into 2 or more branches.
