Started in 1891 by John S. Lane and Sons, it is one of the oldest continuously operating quarries in the Connecticut Valley. Quarries working the Jurassic Holyoke Basalt are located in Westfield and West Springfield, along the town line. Appears to be contiguous now with the Hampden Quarry https://www.mindat.org/loc-6872.html
