A town in southeastern Connecticut underlain mostly by the Ordovician Tatnic Hill Formation - gray to dark-gray, medium-grained gneiss or schist, locally with almandine porphyroblasts, and under its eastern edge, the Ordovician Quinebaug Formation - gray to dark-gray, medium-grained, well-layered gneiss. The rocks are part of the Putnam-Nashoba Terrane that may have an island arc affinity (meta-volcanic ash) and are separated by a thrust fault.
