Already in 1600, the local people mined for quartz in Frostviken area. By the year of 1910, mica were found in rather large quantities and mined for the electro-industry. 4 mines were on Avardofjället, 2 on Görtelstjakk, 3 on Norra Väktarklumpen och 1 on Tangen.

Today, prospecting of chromium is done in the area due to findings of chromium-containing minerals.
