A series of tips and levels extend south-west to north-east up the hillside above the Rheidol Power Station. The lowest tip is on the roadside opposite the closed off lay-by.
The forestry road from the car park of the Rheidol Visitor Centre leads directly to the foot of the lower tip. Approximately 300m further on a public footpath leads back to the tip passing across the top of the lower tip where there is an open level.
About 30m further up the slope is a much more extensive tip. A fossil trilobte was found in this tip material along with potentially several other trilobite parts.
The level extends into the hillside about 200m straight and level with a constant 40cm depth of water until the end is reached and the floor has been raised above the water with rubble. Ahead the level is blocked and a passage to the left (west) is walled off. A further short passage to the right (east) has been partly cleared and ends in the wall of a large shaft.
