Kaersutite can be found as up to 10Β cm large megacrysts in camptonite dikes. The best-known dyke, and also the source of most of the Hoover (Boulder) Dam kaersutites, is a road cut some 12-13Β km (ca. 8 mi) south of the Hoover Dam, on US highway 93, near mile marker 446. The dyke is more than a meter wide, and the near vertical orientation gives a 4Β m exposure in the road cut.
The kaersutite megacrysts get larger towards the center of the dyke. It is believed that rapid cooling towards the walls of the dyke trapped the volatile elements within the dyke, thus allowing larger kaersutites to form towards the center of the dyke. The kaersutite seems to have grown rather rapidly.
Kaersutite can also be found in other camptonite dikes in the area.
