About KelyphiteHide

Name:
From the Greek "kelyphos" = nutshell.
An corona-like alteration product rimming or coating pyrope or other garnets in metamorphic rocks.
In a wider sense, kelyphite also applies to alteration rims around other minerals (e.g. feldspar).

A typical example of a kelyphitic rim around a pyrope in a serpentinite:
