Relatively OH-depleted, in relation to enrichment in trivalent manganese. The low OH content agrees with theory of the crystallization of the parent pegmatite under relatively dry conditions. High [4]Al suggests high-temperature conditions of crystallization, ~700 oC.

The pink core of a tourmaline crystal surrounded by a dark green rim (4x4 mm).
