Puesto Viejo is a town and municipality in Jujuy Province in Argentina.

Calcite and aragonite deposits in dolomitic limestones of the Yacoraite Formation.

Mining Exploitation and Portland Cement Factory in the quarry's vicinity.

Quarry Elevation: 901 m above sea level.

History:

1- Sierra de Puesto Viejo, Jujuy: here are the greatest accumulations of Argentina aragonite. They are located on the western and eastern slopes of the Sierra, forming sometimes powerful layers, up to 12 m thick, including collations of travertine, originated by sub-recent hot springs.
Puesto Viejo Quarry main mineralization: Aragonite, Calcite, Manganese Oxides, Manganese Dendrites, Travertine.

2- Quarry "Cabeza de Toba", Sierra de Puesto Viejo, Jujuy. This quarry holds Marble Onyx, a type of fibrous aragonite in grey to white, between Onyx marble mantles.

Chemical analysis: determined by traditional methods in Puesto Viejo, Jujuy:
Insoluble: 0.22%.
FeO3 + Al2O3: 0.94%.
CaO: 54.89%.
MgO: 0.27%.
CO2: 43.30%.

Beautiful samples of aragonite, calcite, onyx marble (limestone onyx), travertine, stalactites, mineral efflorescences, etc. can be found in the quarry's vicinity.
