The mining area at Gurkha-konzan (Gurkha settlement) produces mostly blue sapphires. At the mining site various gems are recovered from the alluvium: blue star sapphires, star rubies, yellow and pink sapphires are found; most of these gems weigh under 2 carats and are of varying quality, larger sizes tend to be opaque and of cabochon grade. Other gems found in the same area include spinel, moonstone, quartz, topaz and lapis-lazuli. - Ted Themelis (2008) Gems & mines of Mogok
