The pegmatite outcrops just west of the Kimberley Downs-Mondooma Road (track), 6.5 kilometres south of Mondooma cattle yards, although these could not be seen on Google Earth. The Mindat map for the pegmatites is approximate, and the exact co-ordinates chosen are a suggestion within this area based on several factors, although only an on the ground inspection can confirm. It is a very remote and rugged area. GPS 651,345E 8,130,657N UTM51 GDA 94, or 651,250E 8,130,930N UTM51 GDA94 have been suggested as locations for the pegmatite.

In 1905 W.V. Ferguson found large schorl crystals in the area, and in 1908 W.D. Campbell found schorl and muscovite, both possibly from what was subsequently known as Stewarts pegmatite. It is named after J. Stewart who worked it for mica and beryl in 1949, producing 14.2 or 68.2 kilograms of muscovite and 3.5 tonnes of beryl. The beryl was found in elluvium on and downslope from the pegmatite. The pegmatite was visited in 1959 and 1966, noting numerous small pits and trenches in the south-eastern part of the pegmatite. No later visits are known.

The country rock is north-west trending amphibolite and quartz-mica schists of the Halls Creek Group. The pegmatite is 302 metres strike and 40 metres wide, dipping 45-75 degrees south-west. The reference notes the pegmatite was mapped in 1959 and 1966, but certain questions remain about unusual features of the pegmatite and more study of it is required.

The mapping suggests two zones: a dominant quartz zone with accessory muscovite and secondly a quartz-microcline zone with accessory muscovite, schorl and beryl. The beryl in 1959 at least was reported to be up to 15 cms in diameter, semi transparent some almost to gem quality, and muscovite 'books' 25 to 30 cms (width or thickness not mentioned).
