A former small underground Zn-Pb-Cu-Ag-Au mine located in West-central sec. 2, T24S, R16E (protracted), in Washington Gulch, Duquesne area, on National Forest land. Closed in 1925. Owned at times, or in part, by the Duquesne Mining & Reduction Co.; Nash Mines; Byrd; and, De la Ossa. Located close to the Texas Mine - may be the same?
Mineralization is small, irregular lenses of sulfides in pyrometamorphosed Permian Naco Group limestone. Supergene enrichment of silver in the oxidized zone.
Workings include 3 shafts, with the deepest at 60 feet (1881). Worked sporadically, mostly by lessees, since the early 1900's. Produced a few hundred tons of ore averaging about 7% Zn, 6% Pb, 2% Cu and 6 oz. Ag/T.
