NBMG Sample Site 791
Structure: Bedding Plane Faults
Alteration: Bleaching, Argillization Of Volcanics
Deposit: Workings explore an exposed rib of heavily Fe-stained jasper/jasperoid filling fissures between bedding planes in carbonate. Other stringers and veinlets of jasper/jasperoid were observed parallelling bedding west of the main rib. Appears to be jasper infilling bedding plane faults rather than a rib of jasperoid. Carbonates carry pods of crystalline calcite, and parallelling the beds are saclhroidal calcite veinlets carrying oxidized grains of Fe-stained silica. The main rib of jasper is massive to brecciated, heavily Fe-ox stained. The brecciated jasper is cemented by chalcedonic silica, white to dark blue, and carries a very fine-grained grey metallic mineral. Cutting the jasper are yellowish-brown siliceous veinlets. Pale green surface coatings (malachite?) occur on exposed surfaces. Very minor mnoz spots surfaces. North of the sample site, rhyolitic volcanics outcrop, strongly bleached, argillically altered.
Development: Alleged to be site of Mn prospects, but none were found in 1983.
