A former Ag-Au-Cu-Pb mine located in sec. 34, T14S, R38E, and in secs. 3 & 9 (?), T15S, R38E, MDM, 7.1 km (4.4 miles E of New York Butte (coordinates of record) (2 miles S of the shore of Salt Lake; on the ridge between Craig Canyon & Allen Canyon) (location estimated from description in reference [Crawford]), on National Park Service wilderness land (Death Valley National Park/Death Valley Wilderness) and/or Bureau of Land Management wilderness (Inyo Mountains Wilderness). MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 10 meters. T^his mine was possibly incorporated into later development under different names. USGS crib data suggest that the American Flag Mine may be the same location as the Big Silver Mine. The holding is unclaimed.
Mineralization is a vein deposit with a vein 1 to 4 feet thick. Inm places, very rich pockets of galena associated with coarse gold. The ore body is 1.22 meters thick. Local rocks include Carboniferous marine rocks, unit 3 (SE California Clastic Assemblage).
Workings include underground openings comprised of a 45 foot adit.
