A former Fluorspar mine located in the SW¼ sec. 24, T3S, R20E, SBM, 6.8 km (4.2 miles) WNW of Midland and 14 miles S of Rice, on the E slope of the Little Maria Mountains, at an elevation of 1,800 feet. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 500 meters.
Mineralization is a deposit hosted in quartzite and mica schist. The ore body strikes N50W and dips 75N at a width of 0.91 meters. Local rocks include pre-Cenozoic metasedimentary and metavolcanic rocks undivided and/or Quaternary alluvium and marine deposits.
Workings include underground openings comprised of a 30 foot shaft. A 50 foot trench was excavated to the NW.
Production information: 130 tons shipped in 1944.
Analytical data results: CaF2: 87%; SiO2: 4%; CaO: 0.47%; Al2O3: 2.25%; Fe2O3: 0.15%.
