Name(s) in local language(s):
Area del Lago di Neves (Gebiet Neves-Stausee), Lappago (Lappach), Valle Selva dei Molini (Mühlwalder Tal), Valle Aurina (Ahrntal), Provincia di Bolzano (Alto Adige; Sud Tirolo; Provinz Bozen; Südtirol), Trentino-Alto Adige/Südtirol (Trentino-Südtirol), Italia

This area includes the mountains and glaciers (e.g. Pfeifholderspitze/Cima della Pipa, Weisszint/Punta Bianca, Nevesferner/Vedretta di Neves, Möselenock/Penna del Mesule, Pfaffennock/Cima del Prete) at the head of Valle Selva dei Molini/Mühlwalder Tal.

Minerals are found in Alpine clefts in gneisses of the so-called "Zentralgneise" (a metamorphosed formation of late Palaezoic granitoids) in the Penninic Tauern window and in schist envelope (Schieferhülle) of the gneiss core.

Pfeifholder valley (Pfeifholdertal), to the west of the lake, is famous for the minerals of Alpine clefts, particularly abundant in the area around Pfeifholderspitze, which include hyalin quartz, clinochlore, pericline, adularia, calcite (leafy crystals), apatite, rutile, anatase, pyrite, hematite, and titanite. Weisszint is well-known for the finds of decimetre-sized crystals of adularia, as well as large quartz and albite (pericline and moonstone) crystals. In recent time, phenakite crystals up 2 cm have also been found. To the N and NE of the lake, along the slopes of Möselenock/Penna del Mesule and Pfaffennock/Cima del Prete, fissures with hyaline and smoky quartz, pericline, apatite, chlorite, titanite, and rutile are found.
