The quarry is in Eocence basalt of Crescent Formation in Black Hills, Capitol Forest, near Porter. The rock consists of two flows. The upper flow is columnar with few cavities while the lower flow in the floor of the quarry is highly vesicular with an abundance of zeolites. The rock is used for logging road material.
