The lowest tip is immediately above the Rheidol Visitor Centre and Butterfly House just upslope of the forestry track. An extension of this tip sits a little higher up the hillside and is associated with a deep open shaft and one building. These 2 tips are comprised of a soft dark shale or mudstone some pieces showing ripple marks from deposition. There is no apparent metal mineralisation in the tips though quartz is abundant.
West of the tips is the start of a series of open gunnises that rise obliquely up the hillside striking slightly east of north. The shaft mining and tips all lie 20m or so east of the openworks possibly suggesting the lode dips east.
A further large tip is found further up the hillside associated with an extensive open gunnis. This tip is comprised of a light grey mudstone or shale. Quartz and galena are both abundant whilst sphalerite is occasional.
A third tip lies still further up the hillside, smaller than either of those lower down but also of the pale grey mudstone and galena is present along with well formed quartz points, some containing millerite (?) inclusions. Jan, 2020.
