Abandoned quarry. Active from the late 1940s to 1978.

SARIG Record Sheet, Site no:842250

"Smith Talc Asbestos Mine consisted of workings of shallow cuts and short adits developed on a talcose schist within a sequence of mica schist and quartzite. From 1937-78 1124 tonnes were recovered including 41 tonnes in 1937, 93 tonnes in 1972, and an estimated 990 tonnes from 1976-78."

"Geology; Talcose schist occurs between strongly outcropping and highly altered ancient sediments ranging from mica schists to quartzites."

"Workings; Shallow cuts and short tunnels"

"Production; July-Dec 1972, 92 tons and 1937, 40 tons"

"History; The deposit was first held on MC 15237, from 18.11.35 to 12.3.36 by Lumo Distributing Co. and MC 15322 from 11.12.35 to 10.2.37 by E. Barritt, but there is no record of working. In 1937 and 1938 work was carried out and 40 tons of talc was obtained. It was reworked in the early 1970s by C.W. Smith and the material produced was sold to Steetly Aust. Ltd. and Jarvis Industires."
