In 1999 there were 3 main areas for gem mining at Kin: Kin-ko-lan-bauk, Kin-shu-taw and Kin-kyauk-leik. Rubies and sapphires were recovered from the alluvium using several medium-to-large scale open-pit and myaw-dwin mining schemes.
