The Neptune prospect is under the Lake Lefroy salt-pan bed. It is between Delta Island and the southern shoreline containing the Lefroy Mill. The deposit is immediately west of the causeway.
Also known as the 'Greater Neptune Area'. It includes the Redback and Neptune projects. Only drilling has occurred so far.
The prospects are covered by 10 metre thick lake sediment which thickens to the north and west. The geology is described as similar to that for the Revenge and Victory-Defiance mines listed elsewhere for St Ives.
Gold is hosted in Kapai Slate and Defiance Dolerite, along with several suites of felsic and intermediate intrusive rocks.
The shear zones here are discrete structures, north north-west trending and dipping moderately east. They have a barren bucky quartz core, with a mineralised halo of albite-biotite-pyrite alteration.
High gold values are found in the main EZ Shear in albite-biotite-pyrite mylonite, with a quartz core. Anomalous gold is found in the overlying Tertiary sediments, residual oxides, and saprolite. There is an extensive supergene blanket which overlies the shears, and follows the shear strike.
